National ICH · inscribed 2009

Xiabu weaving is the traditional handcraft of Wanzai County, its production traceable to the late Eastern Jin — some 1,600 years of history. In 2009, Wanzai's Xiabu weaving craftsmanship was inscribed on the third batch of China's national intangible cultural heritage list.

Wanzai Xiabu — ramie grass cloth — is woven from ramie fiber through four steps: warping, sizing, mounting the loom and weaving. Light and thin, breathable and absorbent, it is the ideal fabric for summer wear.

Today Wanzai Xiabu is a specialty product of Jiangxi Province, sold far beyond China's borders and prized by customers at home and abroad.
